BLANDAT

WHAT DOES IT MEAN

Literally translated, it means ‘mixed’ in Swedish. This represents the essence of the brand; When making prints it is like mixing the the best ingredients together.

Blending colour, shapes, techniques and concepts. Characterised by handdrawn illustrations with the always visible pencil stroke.

DESIGNED BY

BLANDAT was founded in 2013 by Dutch designer Debby van der Veer. A graduate of KABK art school in The Hague, The Netherlands.

Through the years, Debby has used her talents in a range of different working environments, from television to graphic design & illustration. Working in the clothing industry brought experience with design, production & marketing.

After moving to Johannesburg with her family in 2012, she decided to start her own label. This is where all the disciplines that Debby had come to master throughout the years came together and blended as one.

In 2021 the move back to Europe was a fact and BLANDAT had to be continued. Working closely with local suppliers in to keep sustainability on a high level.

“ Living in South Africa has given me much inspiration to create, there is colour everywhere!

With so many cultures & traditions around you, it helps you see new things all the time.

I was always intrigued by patterns, the people on the street of the countries we visited in Africa made me see that print is a fantastic way to express yourself. This triggered me to create my own print.

A fully printed outfit, in a furnished interior with the same print; that would be my mission with BLANDAT. With the garment as my canvas.

Through BLANDAT, I invite others to join me on a journey of self-expression and exploration, where fashion becomes a powerful tool for storytelling and connection. Together, let's celebrate the beauty of diversity and creativity, one print at a time.

DRAWING

Each print consists of multiple drawings that are all drawn on paper. The start of a new print.

'They are pieces of my mind that come through thoughts, visual associations and words. With a dozen of soft pencils and many papers in front of me, I just start drawing. From reality or fantasy, everything comes together in my world."

LAYER

After scanning and cleaning up the drawings, it just is a matter of creating the repeat that flows from the initial idea. Most of the time there is a reference that is used for the scale and the idea of the print. Placement and flow is a big decision when making a print.

THE FINAL PRODUCT

Digital printing the fabric is done in small batches, preferably on cotton or silk in Europe.

The printers and textile cloth we work with have the OEKO-TEX certifications. These confirm the human-ecological safety of textile products from all stages of production.

After the pattern development, the sampling is done. Where final decisions are made.

The final stage is the manufacturing of the final product. At this moment we produce in The Netherlands. Our manufacturing partner provides high quality and is open to smaller runs, so we can maintain the sustainability standard of not over producing and can even adjust orders individually. All left-over fabrics are collected and there is minimum waste of fabric.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sustainability is at the core of our manufacturing process at BLANDAT. We recognize the importance of minimising our environmental footprint and ensuring ethical practices throughout every step of production.

Acknowledging the challenges within the fashion industry, our mission is to create garments in the fairest and most sustainable manner possible.

  • NO SEASON

Our design and production process operates in small batches, without committing to specific seasons. This approach is driven by our belief that each garment should endure a long time.

By focusing on small productions, we aim to minimize waste. We only produce what we sell, maintaining a sustainable and environmentally conscious ethos throughout our business.

  • THE PRODUCT

At BLANDAT, our garments feature an intentionally oversized fit, providing comfort and adaptability to suit your changing lifestyle and body. This timeless silhouette ensures lasting versatility and style, for easy, comfortable styling options.

Your clothes adapt seamlessly to the twists and turns of your life!

  • BETTER MATERIALS

We prioritize the use of high-quality, sustainable materials sourced locally in Europe whenever possible. Preferably natural fibres with OEKO-Tex certification.

This reduces the environmental impact associated with long-distance transportation and supports local economies.

  • FAIR WAGES

We believe in fair and ethical labor practices. Our manufacturing atelier adhere to strict standards to ensure that all workers are treated with dignity and respect. And are paid fair wages in the Netherlands.

We believe in the power of collaboration and communication, we love working closely with our makers in the atelier this way we can create beautiful and meaningful products together.

  • MINIMUM TRANSPORT

By sourcing materials and manufacturing close to home, we significantly reduce transportation emissions and energy consumption. This not only minimizes our carbon footprint but also supports our commitment to local communities and economies.

  • LIMITED RUNS

We only manufacture in limited quantities and avoid sales because we believe garments shouldn't be viewed as temporary items needing quick turnover.

We stand by the belief that sales and clearance events are not favorable to a sustainable fashion industry.
